The Windows Insider team has released a new build of the Windows 10 Insider Preview, version 16299.219. This is a new build, which is the same as the previous build, build 1809.10.

There are only two builds of Windows 10 that have been released at the time of this post. The first being build 17763.142 and the second being build 18091. 1600. These builds have also been known as version 19H1 and version 20H1, respectively. The reason I’m writing this blog is because I’ve noticed some confusion with the two builds (the name of build 19H1 versus 20H1), so I thought I’d shed some light on the matter. According to Microsoft, version 19H1 was released on October 2nd, 2016. According to Microsoft, version 20H1 was released on October 9th, 2016.

On November 16th, Microsoft officially launched Windows 10 version 21H2 build 19044.1200. The newest Windows 10 build was released today, and it brings a number of improvements to the table. The new build includes new improvements to the Edge browser, including the ability for users to pin favorite websites to the taskbar.

Insiders in the Release Preview channel received a fresh build of Windows 10 version 21H2 today. These builds are accessible to customers whose machines don’t match the Windows 11 minimum hardware requirements, therefore they’ll get 21H2. The patch KB5005101 is included in today’s build 19044.1200. It contains a number of updates and enhancements to Windows Hello, WSL, and other features, as well as support for WPA3 H2E for Wi-Fi.

However, it will not be automatically installed. So you need to manually check for updates in Settings -> Update and Security -> Windows Update and agree to download and update to version 21H2. If you are already using version 21H2, then the update will be installed automatically.

What is Windows 10 build 19044.1200 version 21H2?

Features that are new

  • Support for the WPA3 H2E Wi-Fi security standards has been added.
  • To enable passwordless installations and reach a deploy-to-run state in a matter of minutes, Windows Hello for Business offers a new deployment technique called cloud trust.
  • GPU computing support for machine learning and other compute demanding processes in the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and Azure IoT Edge for Linux on Windows (EFLOW) deployments

It also contains a number of bug fixes and enhancements. The following is a list of the items on the list.

  • We addressed a bug that prevented users from monitoring activation failures in the Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM).
  • We addressed a threading problem that may have caused the Windows Remote Management (WinRM) service to cease functioning when it was overloaded.
  • We addressed a problem that caused the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider host process to fail. When utilizing the Desired State Configuration, this happens due of an unhandled access violation (DSC).
  • We addressed a bug that prevented file migration across Distributed File System (DFS) paths on separate volumes from failing. When you utilize PowerShell scripts that use the Move-Item command to accomplish the migration, you’ll run into this problem.
  • After a low memory situation arises, we addressed an issue that prevented you from writing to a WMI repository.
  • On high-dynamic range (HDR) displays, we addressed an issue that caused the brightness to be reset for SDR material. This happens when you restart the computer or connect to it remotely.
  • After Hibernation, we addressed an issue that may cause an external monitor to show a blank screen. When an external monitor connects to a docking station through a certain hardware port, this problem may arise.
  • When using nested classes in VBScript, there was a memory leak that was repaired.
  • During the out-of-box experience (OOBE) procedure, we addressed an issue that prevented you from entering any words in the username field. When you utilize the Chinese Input Method Editor, you’ll run across this problem (IME).
  • We addressed an issue that caused shim-based apps to cease functioning. Edgegdi.dll is not installed on devices, thus this problem arises. “The code execution cannot continue because edgegdi.dll was not found,” says the error notice.
  • We solved a bug that prevented you from reducing a program that used unthemed windows from being minimized.
  • We addressed a problem that may have caused your device to stop functioning when performing a touch input gesture. If you bring additional fingers into contact with the touchpad or screen in the midst of a gesture, you’ll see this error.
  • We addressed a bug that caused flickering and lingering line artifacts while scaling pictures.
  • We addressed a bug that prevented users from copying and pasting text boxes into Office 365 applications. You can’t type anything into the text field because of the IME.
  • We resolved a problem that prevented USB audio headsets from functioning on computers with USB audio offload. This problem arises when third-party audio drivers are installed on the computers.
  • When defining Package Family Name rules in a Code Integrity policy, we addressed an issue that prevented Code Integrity rules from functioning properly. This problem arises as a result of the improper treatment of case-sensitive names.
  • On a Privileged Access Workstation (PAW) device, we addressed a problem that prevented the ShellHWDetection service from running and preventing you from controlling BitLocker disk encryption.
  • We addressed a bug in Windows Defender Exploit Protection that prevented certain Microsoft Office programs from running on certain CPUs.
  • The IME toolbar now appears even when the Remote App is closed, thanks to a patch.
  • When you set the policy “Delete user profiles older than a specified number of days on system restart,” we addressed an issue that might arise. If a user has been logged in for longer than the policy allows, the device may remove profiles upon startup without warning.
  • The Microsoft OneDrive sync option “Always keep on this device” was fixed. After you install Windows updates, the option is suddenly restored to “Known directories only.”
  • When a user stops the Japanese reconversion, the user receives the incorrect Furigana result.
  • We addressed a rare bug that prevented Bluetooth headphones from connecting using the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) for music playing, limiting them to voice calls exclusively.
  • The policy “Target Product Version” was added. Administrators may use this to designate which Windows product devices should move to or stay on (for example, Windows 10 or Windows 11).
  • To enhance search efficiency in high lookup traffic situations, we raised the default amount of entries in the local security authority (LSA) Lookup Cache.
  • During an in-place update, we addressed an issue that may have resulted in multiple built-in local accounts, such as administrator or guest account. If you already renamed such accounts, this problem will arise. As a consequence, following the update, the Local Users and Groups MMC snap-in (msc) displays blank with no accounts. On the impacted computers, this update eliminates duplicate accounts from the local Security Account Manager (SAM) database. A Directory-Services-SAM event with ID 16986 is logged in the System event log if the system detects and removes duplicate accounts.
  • In srv2, we corrected a stop error of 0x1E! Smb2CheckAndInvalidateCCFFile.
  • “HRESULT E FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component has been returned from a call to a COM component has been returned from a call to a COM component has been returned from a call to a COM component has been returned from a call to a COM component has been returned from a call to a When you utilize Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2012 as sources, you’ll run into this problem.
  • After a deduplication filter finds damage at a reparse point, we addressed an issue that may cause a system to cease functioning. This problem arises as a result of deduplication driver modifications made in a prior version.
  • We solved an issue with data loss when running the robocopy command with the backup option (/B). When the source location includes tiered Azure File Sync files or tiered Cloud Files, this problem arises.
  • From the defunct Storage Health functionality, we stopped performing queries to OneSettings APIs.
  • Over 1400 new mobile device management (MDM) rules were enabled. You may use them to set up policies that are also supported by Group Policies. Administrative template (ADMX) policies such as App Compat, Event Forwarding, Servicing, and Task Scheduler are among the new MDM policies. You may set these new MDM rules using the Microsoft Endpoint Manager (MEM) Settings Catalog starting in September 2021.
