A humanitarian crisis of undocumented immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border through Mexico has grown over the years, with most arriving in Texas to seek asylum from political turmoil and war-torn countries. This year’s numbers have been especially high as refugees continue to flee their homes due to a lack of peace worldwide.,

The “where in the u.s. are ukrainian refugees going” is a question that has been asked by many people. The answer to this question, is that they are arriving at the U.S. border in Mexico.

Ukrainians escaping violence eat and sleep on the streets of Tijuana, only a thousand feet from the US border and more than 6,000 miles from home.

According to correspondent Manuel Bojorquez, Ukrainian migrants are traveling through Mexico since they may acquire a tourist visa and then proceed to the San Ysidro port of entry.

According to volunteers assisting them, roughly 150 Ukrainians have been permitted to enter the United States on a humanitarian basis each day, with more on the way.

The Biden administration has said that 100,000 Ukrainian refugees would be welcomed into the nation.

Hundreds of Ukrainians have gathered in Mexico, with many of them camped out in Tijuana, south of San Diego. Anastasyia Petukh, whose parents remained behind, showed Bojorquez her temporary residence in Tijuana — a tent – as well as the few belongings she could carry with her.

“Do you think things will improve [in the United States]?” he inquired.

“Yeah, I’m just hoping. Also, pray.”

Others remain in motels but return to check their numbers, which indicate when they may present themselves to US Border authorities and are assigned by Ukrainian-American volunteers.

Veronika Sviatetska’s phone number was 1,185, according to Bojorquez.

The Tijuana encampment began at the final bus terminal before crossing the border into the United States. There were just a few hundred people here a few days ago, but it has since expanded enormously. It is currently anticipated that around 1,000 Ukrainians are awaiting their turn in this location.

It’s the same location where asylum applicants, mostly from Latin America and the Caribbean, have congregated in the past, but the vast majority have been turned away owing to current US immigration laws.

They informed us at the shelter that they sympathize with the Ukrainians, but that they, too, are in life-or-death circumstances. Honduran Roxana Ruiz Ramirez claims that gangs are threatening to murder her family. “Tambien nosotros tenemos necesidad” – “we, too, need assistance,” she said.

For the time being, more Ukrainians are arriving. At Tijuana’s airport, volunteers meet them, and a gym is being converted into a shelter.

Mila, a Los Angeles lady, met her 17-year-old grandson Anthony, who had traveled alone for over a month from Kyiv, back at the border.

Mila hugged him and whispered, “God bless Ukraine.” “Mexico, may God bless you. And may God continue to bless America.”

“He’s very, very glad that he’s here on this property and, you know, can be reunited with his family,” she told Bojorquez.

Russians are also coming in large numbers, with roughly 800 arriving in February, the month the conflict broke out. They claim they are escaping political persecution and do not support the war. Their situations are more problematic, however, since the United States has not established an official exception for Russian asylum applicants.
