Fully vaccinated travelers from the European Union and the United States will be able to bypass COVID-related quarantine while entering England, according to the UK’s transport minister.
According to Reuters.com, Transport Minister Grant Shapps said that from August 2, passengers who got a complete vaccine from an authorized brand would not be needed to quarantine upon arrival in England.

Shapps predicted that the reopening of England to foreign tourists will be followed by the rest of the United Kingdom welcoming visitors in the following weeks, providing even another boost to airlines and tourism businesses hit by the coronavirus epidemic.
“The Travel & Tourism sector – and the UK economy – will get a huge boost following news that fully-vaccinated US and EU visitors will at last be able to travel quarantine-free to England,” WTTC Acting CEO Virginia Messina said.
“The cruise industry will exhale a sigh of relief that the critical restart of international cruise services from England has been approved, providing optimism to a sector that has battled to remain afloat,” Messina said.
While quarantine restrictions have been removed, EU and US tourists will still need to provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 test before leaving and shortly after arriving in England.
Due to worries about the highly transmissible COVID-19 Delta strain, reports emerged earlier this week that the US would not remove any current travel restrictions in the near future.
“British government officials took the right choice in reopening England to vaccinated visitors from the United States,” said Tori Emerson Barnes, Executive Vice President of Public Affairs and Policy at the United States Travel Association.
“Now is the time for US officials to follow suit and establish a timetable to reopen our national borders—and we urge them to begin with vaccinated passengers from the United Kingdom and the European Union. Barnes went on to say, “and Canada.” “In fact, there is no difference between an American who has been vaccinated and those who have been vaccinated in the United Kingdom, the European Union, or elsewhere. as well as Canada.”
Despite the White House’s refusal to reopen to foreign visitors, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Wednesday that he and the US are negotiating a transit corridor, which would allow non-essential transatlantic tourism to resume.
“Following the announcement that fully vaccinated EU and US citizens arriving in the UK will no longer be required to self-isolate,” Virgin Atlantic CEO Shai Weiss said, “we stand ready to work with Government to ensure new rules are smoothly implemented at a rapid pace, supporting the reopening of the Transatlantic corridor.”
“Our preparedness to quickly operationalize an extended Amber policy has been proven by a recent proof-of-concept experiment involving Virgin Atlantic, Heathrow, and British Airways, with 99 percent of passengers’ vaccination credentials verified at the time of departure,” Weiss added.
