The “la galaxy vs portland timbers prediction” is a matchup of two Western Conference teams. The LA Galaxy have the best record in MLS, while Portland Timbers are on the rise.
The LA Galaxy beat the Portland Timbers 3-1 on Sunday, with Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez scoring twice in a tense encounter that saw two players sent off for red cards.
In the opening 16 minutes, Chicharito’s early score and an own goal put the Galaxy up 2-0. Los Angeles had been on a two-game losing slide when they won this game (3-2-0).
The Timbers lost for the first time at home and are 1-2-3 in their first five games, with defender Bill Tuiloma scoring the lone goal.
Madison Shanley, the national anthem singer, made a controversy before the game by wearing a T-shirt that said “You Knew,” a reference to previous controversies between the Timbers and the Portland Thorns of the NWSL.
Late in the first half, with the Timbers behind 2-0, defender Pablo Bonilla was sent off for a straight red, leaving Portland with just 10 men for the remainder of the game. Marco Delgado of the Galaxy was dismissed in the 61st minute after receiving two yellow cards in the space of 11 minutes.
Nick DePuy of the Galaxy and Sebastian Blanco of Portland both received yellow cards after a scuffle early in the second half. Chicharito received a yellow card in the 57th minute following another tense altercation between the two sides.
Galaxy coach Greg Vanney remarked, “We got through what was a chaotic and crazy game and accomplished what we needed to do.”
Chicharito scored off a cross by Samuel Grandsir in the ninth minute, and an own goal in the 16th minute increased the advantage.
Following that, Chicharito swiftly switched his attention to next weekend’s El Trafico matchup between the Galaxy and LAFC.
“It’s fantastic to come here and grab the three points,” he remarked. “It’s also a fantastic feeling to bounce back after two heartbreaking defeats. And, certainly, this outcome gives us a lot of confidence in the Trafico.”

Tuiloma, who had just returned to Portland after serving with the New Zealand national team, netted a free kick in the 51st minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. It was his season’s second goal.
In the 59th minute, Chicharito’s second goal, his fourth of the season, increased the Galaxy’s advantage.
Tuiloma remarked, “All we have to do now is go back to the whiteboard and see what we can improve on.” “We have to keep our heads up and not let this defeat get to us.”
Douglas Costa, a Brazilian, was forced to leave the Galaxy’s previous game due to a hamstring injury. He was designated as doubtful for the game versus Portland, but he did not appear.
Blanco made his first start for the Timbers this season. Blanco was injured during the first part of last season and did not return until June, when he helped Portland reach the MLS Cup final.
Diego Chara matched Kyle Beckerman’s MLS career record for fouls with 756 with a foul in stoppage time.
“It’s a fantastic confidence boost for us — which I’m not sure we needed, because I think our players were delighted with the way they played — but it’s always wonderful to earn three points, and now we prepare,” Vanney said of the next rivalry game.
“It doesn’t take much to get our men, our fans, and everyone else excited about the game coming up next week, so I believe we’ll ride this little wave of three points into the week.”
