The Charlotte Hornets are one of the worst teams in the NBA. The team has struggled since their inception, but that is not stopping them from looking for a new owner to take over its operations.

The Charlotte Hornets will face the Philadelphia 76ers in a 12:30 p.m. ET matchup at Wells Fargo Center. With that in mind, now is a good opportunity to check out our NBA odds series, which includes our Hornets-Sixers forecast, odds, and selection.

In its most recent game, Charlotte defeated the New York Knicks 125-114. Miles Bridges led the way with a game-high 31 points on 11-of-15 shooting. LaMelo Ball, on the other hand, had a career-high 15 assists and scored 20 points. The Hornets have won eight of their previous ten games and have the same record as the Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks (40-37).

The Sixers, on the other hand, are coming off a heartbreaking defeat to the Detroit Pistons last Thursday. With 37 points and 15 rebounds, Joel Embiid produced another MVP-like performance. James Harden, on the other hand, struggled terribly on the court, shooting only 4-of-15 for 18 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Philly has lost three consecutive games and is in a funk.

Here are FanDuel’s NBA odds for the Hornets-Sixers clash on Saturday at noon.

Why the Hornets may be able to cover the spread

Over the last three weeks, the Hornets have been in a nice groove. They are 7th in points per game (119.3), 4th in field goal percentage (50.1%), and 3rd in three-point percentage over their previous ten games (40 percent ).

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Charlotte might receive a veteran boost as well, with Gordon Hayward set to return after a 22-game layoff. The Hornets have designated the 6-foot-7 forward as a possible starter. Due to an ankle injury, he has been sidelined since February 7.

The Hornets will have everyone on their core roster available this afternoon, thanks to Hayward’s comeback.

This season, the Hornets had a 41-32 record against the spread. And, given the team’s recent surge paired with Philadelphia’s recent struggles, there’s a high possibility they’ll beat that record after this game. Charlotte has a 20-18 road record and a 24-23 record versus East opponents.

Why the Sixers may be able to cover the spread

Philadelphia hasn’t been playing very well recently, which might be reason for worry. They squandered a 14-point lead and lost to the reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, after a defeat to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. Their problems were exacerbated when they fell to the tanking Detroit Pistons despite Joel Embiid’s 37 points. Regardless, it may only be a matter of time until they shake their funk.

Against the spread, the Sixers have a 36-39 record. The 5-point spread is also not the smallest. And the Hornets haven’t covered the spread in Philadelphia’s previous two victories. On December 6, the Sixers won 127-124 in overtime, then upset the Hornets by four points two nights later. Despite this, the cast of characters has changed, particularly on the Sixers’ side. James Harden has arrived. And, while not looking like the James Harden we’ve come to expect, he’s still capable of putting up massive numbers on any given night.

There are no prominent names on the Sixers’ injured list. This last stretch of the regular season is an excellent chance for them to establish a rhythm heading into the playoffs.

Final Hornets–Sixers pick and prediction

This is a difficult one to call since the Sixers are the clear favorites due to their star power. But, given their recent struggles, I’d go with the Hornets in this one. Charlotte’s offense has been on fire, which is one of the reasons for its eight-game winning streak.

Final Hornets–Sixers Prediction & Pick: Hornets: +5 (-110)
