The Royals enter this series finale hoping to keep a split against the Rangers and improve on their 10-18 season record after an 8-2 thrashing yesterday that ended a three-game losing skid. RHP Jonathan Heasley will get the start following six minor league starts, where he went 1-0 with a 4.44 ERA. Heasley debuted in the big leagues in 2021, making three starts and posting a 4.91 ERA.

The Rangers are 12-17 on the season and have a 5-10 home record. Taylor Hearn, a left-handed pitcher with a 6.52 earned-run average, will take the mound for the Rangers this evening.

Why the Royals Have a Chance to Cover the Spread

To begin, the Royals have had a fairly poor start to the 2022 MLB season, but a brief peek of supremacy was on full show only 24 hours ago in their triumph against the Rangers. There were a lot of smiles in the Royals clubhouse on Wednesday, thanks to the hot bats and the pitching arms that kept Texas off balance.

Because the MLB season is seen as a marathon rather than a sprint, Kansas City will need to continue to apply the same recipe for success that led to the overwhelming victory to get back into postseason contention.

While playoff expectations are still a few years away, the Royals’ youthful and intriguing incoming talent is bringing optimism to a fan base that hasn’t had much to celebrate for since the Royals won the Commissioner’s Trophy in 2015.

The Royals are statistically one of the league’s lowest five teams in terms of batting and pitching. Wednesday’s eight-run outburst, which saw the Royals score four times in the ninth inning, seemed to be an exception.

Kansas City is only slugging on offense. With 91 runs, he is the second-lowest run producer in baseball. If there is a silver lining, it has arrived in the person of OF Andrew Benintendi. The Royals’ left fielder has been on a tear. Through 28 games, he has 314 hits and 12 RBIs, both team highs.

Hearn’s earned run average has risen like a balloon, and he’ll try to turn things around against Texas on Thursday. Last spring, the 27-year-old only faced the Rangers once, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing two runs on four hits.

Why the Rangers Might Be able to Cover the Spread

Texas, which is now fourth in the AL West, has won six of its last nine games and is on the mend following a disastrous start to the 2022 season. Despite their 8-2 setback the day before, the Rangers defeated the Royals 6-4 in game one of their series. In the triumph, star shortstop Corey Seager was as prolific as they come, hitting two home runs into the bleachers and giving his team with a much-needed offensive jolt. After being restricted to just two runs on six hits in an 8-2 loss to Kansas City, Texas will need more to win the rubber match at home.

Texas has been marginally stronger offensively than its American League competitors, scoring 117 runs in 29 games, good for 20th in the majors. While their combined batting average hasn’t been much better at. With his club-leading 18 RBIs in 110 at-bats, 219 right-fielder Adolis Garcia has been a sight to see.

Texas is aiming to counteract the Royals lineup with the youthful flamethrower Heasley, who is a new face on the mound. The fact that there is minimal video and scouting reports on Heasley may work in the Rangers’ favor, given the tiny sample size and lack of MLB pitching experience.

Final Royals-Rangers Prediction & Pick

With the series’ crucial third game scheduled to take place in the heart of Texas, both teams are hoping to win and add to their victory totals. When everything is said and done, only one of these teams will be able to claim bragging rights. The Royals are a fantastic bet at +1.5 in this one. Kansas City looked good against the Rangers yesterday, and they’ll pass the eye test and cover the spread on the road.
