The Windows Store has been flooded with recently updated apps, and now it seems Microsoft has updated some of the Windows 10 apps too. Here’s a look at the refreshed apps in the Windows Store.

Microsoft has taken the surprising step of updating some of the Windows 11 apps, with the updates coming in the form of new features and bug fixes.

One of the biggest features coming to Windows 10, is Continuum, a way for PCs, tablets and phones to seamlessly switch between a desktop-like environment and your mobile device.

Microsoft is releasing upgraded versions of the pre-installed applications that come with Windows 11. Only Insiders in the Dev channel may try them for now. The firm will also provide upgrades for a variety of additional proprietary apps in the future.

Tool for Snipping

Windows 11 replaces the Snipping Tool and Snip&Sketch desktop apps with the new Snipping Tool app, which includes the best of both worlds.

The new Snipping Tool for Windows 11 is built on the original desktop program, but it has new graphics and functionality, such as the WIN + SHIFT + S keyboard shortcut from Sniping Sketch and an enhanced annotation tool. The app’s settings page has also been updated by the firm.

Use the keyboard shortcut WIN + SHIFT + S to rapidly capture a screenshot. It will bring up a customized menu with a variety of choices. You may select to record a rectangular slice, a freeform slice, a particular window, or the whole screen, for example.

You will not get a pop-up notice after taking a screenshot if you have notifications disabled or Focus Assist activated. Your screenshot, however, will be transferred to the clipboard. This will be addressed in a subsequent version.

After you’ve taken a screenshot, the Snipping Tool will provide you various choices for cropping it, annotating it, and so on.

Finally, the dark theme is now supported by Snipping Tool. It can be applied automatically based on your customization choices, but you may also manually change the theme in the app settings.

Calculator

The Calculator app has been redesigned by Microsoft to better match the style of Windows 11. It also has a new skin setting (similar to the Snipping Tool app) that prevents the app from matching the OS’s current app mode choice.

Calculator, by the way, has been rebuilt in C# so that more people may participate in its development. Its source code is available on GitHub, as you may recall.

Many helpful features have been added to the Calculator. It’s the ideal tool for doing math assignments, managing money, creating and analyzing equation graphs, and solving trigonometric and complicated arithmetic expressions.

  • For all the fundamentals, there’s a simple and easy-to-use ordinary calculator, and for more complicated arithmetic, there’s a powerful scientific calculator.
  • Programmer Mode has a lot of features that are useful for programming and engineering.
  • In graphing mode, plot one or more equations and then examine the graph to find important graph characteristics such as the x- and y-intercepts.
  • More than 100 different units and currencies may be converted.

Mail & Calendar

“Mail and Calendar” has also been given a makeover. To make applications seem like they’re part of Windows 11, Microsoft incorporated rounded edges and other details.

As before, Mail & Calendar can follow the Windows system theme, so you can comfortably send emails and view your daily schedule.
