Tony Tarasco is an American baseball coach who’s been a manager in the Major League Baseball since the 2013 season. He’s been working for the New York Mets since the 2015 season.

Former MLB outfielder Tony Tarasco is back with the New York Mets. Tarasco, who has played alongside Hall of Fame talents like Cal Ripken Jr. and Mike Piazza, is currently the Mets’ first base coach. The former outfielder is also far from his days on the streets of California.

He hit .240 with 34 home runs and 118 RBI in 457 games. Tarasco impressed as a 24-year-old outfielder for the Montreal Expos in 1995. In 126 games this year, he has hit .249 with 14 home runs, 40 RBI, 24 stolen bases and has just 78 strikeouts against 51 walks. However, the most important moment in Tarasco’s career came a year later when he played for the Baltimore Orioles. In the first game of the 1996 ALCS, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter hits a ball into right field and Tarasco goes for it. However, Yankees catcher Jeffrey Mayer hit over the right field wall, and the umpires ruled it a home run and not a fan interference. Tarasco yelled at Rich Garcia, the right-field umpire, as Jeter rounded the bases. The Yankees won the first game and eventually beat John Smoltz and the Atlanta Braves in the World Series. Mayer and Tarasco indirectly began a five-year stretch in which the Yankees won four championships.
