The Dallas Mavericks have committed to playing Doncic at the point guard spot this upcoming season, but, as you can imagine, they’re a little nervous. We’ve heard plenty of anecdotal evidence that the 19-year-old is a bit of an attention whore. He makes a big deal of having to guard a player like Beverley, who is 6’4 and really likes to talk about how tall he is. I’m sure you can imagine how Doncic might take that.

Most NBA players leave game analysis to the media. They keep their opinions to themselves and let the presenters explain what works, what doesn’t, and why certain things happen on set. During Game 1 of the Dallas Mavericks’ first round series against the Los Angeles Clippers, Mavs superstar Luka Doncic helped the announcers and gave his opinion on why Clippers defenseman Patrick Beverley can’t defend him. That’s because he’s just too small, according to Doncic.
Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks want revenge on the team that knocked them out of the playoffs in 2020
Luka Doncic and Patrick Beverly | Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports Doncic and the Mavericks have No. 7 and a deal with the No. 2 Clippers on the 2020 NBA bubble. The Clippers of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George won two of the first three games, but Doncic put on a show in Game 4. Mavericks beat Los Angeles Clippers in first away game
. Playing with the Mavericks means one thing. You have to stop Doncic. The Clippers couldn’t do it in Game 1 of their 2021 playoff series and lost 113-103 as a result. Doncic showed an incredible game in the first game of a seven game series. The Slovenian star collected another triple-double in the playoffs with 31 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in 41 minutes of play. Judging by Doncic’s performance, none of the Clippers defenders had much success defending the Mavs’ young star. At times, Leonard, George, Reggie Jackson and Nicolas Batum took turns trying to stop Doncic, with limited success. Although the Clippers probably planned to send all those defenders after Doncic, they may have had to resort to plan B sooner than expected. That’s because Patrick Beverley, who defended Doncic early in the game, was struggling.
Hot Mic caught Doncic telling Patrick Beverly he was too small
Beverley is one of the Clippers’ best and most tenacious defenders. He is known in the NBA for trying to improve defenses, sometimes even going too far, like when he injured Russell Westbrook by diving under the knee of a defender at the time. Doncic started off the Clippers’ 6’1 Beverly offense early in Game 1. Four minutes into the game, Doncic got the ball at the free throw line and pulled Beverly into the paint. All Beverley could do was give Doncic a foul when he scored. At that point, NBA microphones picked up Doncic yelling at Beverly: They’re too small! It was a funny and probably embarrassing moment for Beverly. It was also a moment for Clippers coach Tyronn Lue to return to the drawing board. If the Clippers want a chance to beat the Mavericks again this year, they will have to find a way to stop Doncic, or at least slow him down. Stopping the Mavs’ star is no easy task. And, as we now know from Doncic, Beverly won’t do it because he’s too small. All statistics provided by Basketball Reference COMPARED TO: Even Luka Dončić is tired of complaining about referees
