The Portland Trail Blazers were 3-14 during the month of January, a stark contrast from their 20+ win December performance. This has led to speculation that Jusuf Nurkic is not as good as advertised. With this in mind, what should be done about it?

The “jusuf nurkic” is a problem that has been present for a while. The Portland Trail Blazers are struggling to get their fans interested in the team and its players.

Jusuf Nurkic Failing to Draw Much Interest is a Major Problem for the Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers spent the whole summer surrounded by speculation about Damian Lillard’s future intentions. Despite the fact that the star point guard has indicated no desire to depart, the Blazers’ success in the 2021-22 season hasn’t given him any cause to be optimistic about remaining.

With Lillard out for the next three weeks, Portland is in risk of missing out on a playoff berth. Prior to the trade deadline, the front office is dealing with another issue with Jusuf Nurkic.

The Blazers are fighting to make the playoffs this season.

The Blazers labored through the 2021-22 season after a difficult offseason marred by rumours about Damian Lillard’s future.

Injuries have been a major factor in Portland’s struggles, as they now sit in 10th place in the Western Conference with a 21-30 record. Lillard is recovering from stomach surgery he had more than two weeks ago and is expected to be out for six weeks. CJ McCollum, on the other hand, has missed a substantial amount of time, appearing in just 33 of the team’s first 51 games.

The Blazers’ poor start has spurred trade speculation ahead of the All-Star break. However, it hasn’t sparked much interest in one critical item.

More difficulties awaits Jusuf Nurkic if he fails to attract trade interest.

The Blazers’ inability to get into the postseason picture has fueled trade speculation.

Jusuf Nurkic has become a well-known name as a possible moveable asset. The 27-year-old, on the other hand, hasn’t piqued anyone’s attention in the open market. According to Marc Stein of the New York Times’ SubStack, Portland isn’t getting many calls for the seasoned big man.

“I believe many in Portland believe Nurkic is on the move,” Stein wrote. “To be honest, I haven’t heard his name discussed a lot in recent weeks talking to other clubs, and I don’t detect a lot of interest in him.”

Nurkic recently added to the speculation by telling Jason Quick of The Athletic that the Blazers are unlikely to move him before the Feb. 10 deadline. Despite his continued dissatisfaction with his offensive role, he is coming off a strong month in January, when he averaged 17.3 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists while shooting 51.0 percent from the field.

In the last year of his four-year, $48 million contract, the seventh-year center earns $12 million. On both ends of the floor, he’s been a dependable force, but that hasn’t translated into real trade interest. Instead, speculation is growing that he will leave next offseason, particularly if Damian Lillard is no longer a part of the team’s future.

The Blazers are in a difficult situation in which the future of the organization is unknown, since reaching the playoffs is not a given. Despite the fact that this seems to be Nurkic’s last season in Portland, the front management may be forced to accept the reality of allowing him to fulfill his contract without collecting any assets prior to his departure.

Damian Lillard is in charge of the Blazers’ future.

Even though the Blazers try to evade it, Damian Lillard is in charge of the team’s future plans.

Lillard hasn’t stoked the fire with any alarmist remarks, and he hasn’t done so behind the scenes either. The talk is about his career, which he is still in the peak of. It’s being speculated that he doesn’t want to squander his prime years on a team that isn’t a title contender.

Lillard is in the first year of his four-year, $176.2 million contract, which includes a player option for $48.7 million in the 2024-25 season. The Blazers haven’t given him any reason to think they can construct a championship challenger, despite the fact that he hasn’t shown a desire to leave.

Even with the chance to play alongside one of the league’s top players, Portland isn’t a popular free agency destination. It leaves the organization with little choice except to acquire top players via trades, something the front management has yet to accomplish.

Unless Portland completely overhauls its roster, it will never be able to compete for a title. With the way the 2021-22 season is shaping out, Lillard may finally be ready for a trade next summer.

The Blazers are well aware of the stakes, and it is up to them to provide what their star point guard and fans have come to expect.

Spotrac provided the contract numbers.
