Curtain bangs are a great way to add some punch and pizzazz to your look. They also have the added benefit of being easy-to-style, so you can keep up with changing trends in no time.

The “what face shape do i have” is a question that most people ask themselves. There are many different shapes and sizes, and each one requires a different style of bangs.

Curtain bangs are really popular right now.

The fashionable 70s-inspired hairdo has been noticed on the likes of Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor and Sex Education’s Aimee Lou Wood since it reappeared late last year.

It’s another famous 00s hairstyle that’s making a comeback, and it’s a super-flattering, symmetrical hair alternative since it frequently needs a center parting.

This style of fringe is different from the traditional one that falls straight over your face since it is trimmed to frame both sides of your face. It works well with both long and short hair.

We all know that obtaining a fringe may be hazardous, but the good news is that it can work for every face shape and hair type provided you know which version to choose.

‘It’s that time of year again, when ladies all across the country are seeking for ways to alter up their hairstyles as we approach the colder months,’ says hair expert Nicole Petty of Milk + Blush to

‘Curtain bangs are very adaptable and may be worn with any hair length. However, because to differences in facial shapes and hair types, what fits one individual may not suit another.’

So, you want to give your hair a new look? Depending on your face shape and hair type, this is what you should ask for at your next salon session.

Shapes of the face

Face that is square

‘Those with strong jawlines and high cheekbones, which are characteristic of a square face shape, can go for a short wispy fringe and center parting to balance out the angles and extend their face,’ Nicole advises.

Those with oval features, on the other hand, should maintain the length somewhat longer to emphasize their cheekbones.

‘Ask for a thin, wispy, textured fringe with an off-centre parting to give the appearance of a more oval face shape,’ Nicole advises.

‘You may also get a sharper appearance while elongating the face by splitting the face up at the breadth of the cheekbones and beyond your jawline.’

Face with a rectangular shape

Longer curtain bangs are also better for rectangular faces, since anything too stiff would emphasise any harsher features, Nicole advises.

‘Cutting one in that is longer and finishes at, or just below, your cheekbones will soften and enhance the face,’ she continues.

Oval face

It’s also good news if you have an oval face, since you may wear any sort of curtain fringe.

‘Get a thicker, shorter fringe that grazes the tops of your eyebrows and finishes at the top of your cheekbones to give a touch of drama,’ Nicole suggests.

Face that is long

Nicole emphasizes that a long face (slightly narrower and longer than an oval face) will benefit from a blunt fringe, which should be trimmed straight across to seem shorter.

Face of a diamond

‘For diamond faces, have a shorter, thicker fringe with a little off-centre parting to give the sense of breadth,’ Nicole explains.

‘This will give the impression of a larger forehead, while the center section will lengthen your face.’

The characteristics of a heart-shaped face include a slightly pointed chin and a broader forehead.

Nicole recommends a centre-parted style that swoops to just above the jaw to lend breadth to the smallest part of the face.

Types of hair

Furthermore, curtain bangs are adaptable to various hair types, allowing anybody to participate.

‘Ensure your stylist cuts curly or tightly curled hair – such as Afro hair – in dry and ask for a little longer style (an inch longer than intended) just above the cheekbones to provide space for shrinking,’ Nicole recommends.

‘For face framing and volume, fine or straight hair will benefit from layered, lengthier curtain bangs.’

‘Blank or heavy bangs will look better on thicker hair.’

‘However, wavy hair will almost certainly need extra care to style.’
