The Browns have a history of finding diamonds in the rough, and this year is no different. With so many first-year players expected to compete for playing time at multiple positions in training camp and beyond, it can be difficult deciding which one might surprise you with their talent. Who will take the league by storm?

The “browns draft picks 2022” is a list of the best rookie sleepers for the upcoming NFL season. The list includes players that are not widely known, and should be on everyone’s radar.

Browns best rookie sleeper to make an impact for 2022 NFL season

By signing DeShaun Watson as their franchise quarterback, the Cleveland Browns may have lost their chances to grab top-end rookie talent. The first-round selections traded for Watson in 2022, 2023, and 2024 not only allowed the Browns to get their first difference-maker at quarterback since their resurrection in 1999, but they also kept the team out of the first day of the draft for the foreseeable future. The catch? On days two and three, you can unearth starter-worthy talent if you search hard enough.

On days two and three of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Browns had nine selections, three of which were in the third round. With those third-round selections, the Browns addressed defensive backfield depth with Mississippi State cornerback Martin Emerson, took a chance on a project edge rusher in UAB’s Alex Wright, and addressed a glaring wide receiver need with Purdue’s David Bell.

The fourth round is where the Browns perhaps gained the greatest value over the course of those two days. Cade York, regarded as the greatest kicker in the draft by some, was picked with the 124th overall choice, with the expectation of becoming the Browns’ starting placekicker to begin the 2022 season. The Browns went back to an all-too-familiar program with their other choice, No. 108, to choose what may be their most significant rookie for the 2022 NFL season.

Rookie Sleeper for the Browns in the 2022 NFL Season

The Browns chose a “dog” with selection No. 108, defensive lineman Perrion Winfrey out of Oklahoma, according to his initial chat with Cleveland reporters.

Most draft pundits rated Winfrey as a top-five defensive lineman when he moved from JUCO-level Iowa Western Community College to the Sooners for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. After winning the Senior Bowl MVP award, the 6-foot-3, 290-pound run-stopper had his draft value rise, but he still found himself in the fourth round, where the Browns took a risk on him.

Many defensive coordinators in the Big 12 were impressed by his bull-rush, run-stuffing technique, which allowed colleagues like fellow Browns rookie Isaiah Thomas to face a lot of one-on-one blocks on the edge. Something that defensive ends Myles Garrett and maybe Jadeveon Clowney could certainly use, and something the Browns lacked in 2021. Perrion Winfrey has 5.5 sacks in his senior season with the Sooners, in addition to filling the middle.

The rookie’s attitude is even more amazing. Some blue-chip prospects and future top-end draft picks would laugh if they were selected in the fourth round. On the other hand, Perrion Winfrey takes a quite different strategy.

“I anticipated to leave early,” Winfrey added, “but to be honest, I needed this.” “This was a wake-up call, and it provided me with all of the gasoline and fire I needed to enter the league and dominate, so I wouldn’t alter a thing.”

Perrion Winfrey is the Cleveland Browns’ sleeper rookie coming into the 2022 NFL season, because to his background, demeanor, and obvious enthusiasm for being a part of the team.
