The Boston Celtics shocked the basketball world by trading away Isaiah Thomas and Avery Bradley for Evan Turner, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the 2018 Brooklyn first round draft pick. The news broke Sunday night during the NBA Draft.
The Boston Celtics shook things up this week when they fired head coach Brad Stevens, and then went out and hired former New Jersey Nets and Los Angeles Clippers coach Jason Kidd. Kidd’s hiring brought up the question: Is he just a placeholder, or will he be allowed to coach the team like he did in his playing days?
The Boston Celtics need a change. Danny Ainge announced Wednesday that he is stepping down as president of basketball operations after 18 years. That was just the first domino. Head coach Brad Stevens will replace Ainge, leaving the head coach position vacant. According to early speculation, Jason Kidd is a candidate for Stevens’ old job.The Boston Celtics had a very tough year

This season, Boston’s talented squad hovered around .500 for most of the year before stopping at 36-36. After the victory, the team entered the postseason in 7th place. Boston has been in turmoil all year. As the team struggled, the players seemed very frustrated. After a loss earlier in the season, a reporter asked Jaylen Brown what he thought of the team’s ball movement. After 10 seconds of silence, the All-Star defender simply stated: No comment. The team squandered a 24-point lead in the second half against the New Orleans Pelicans, suffering one of many embarrassing defeats this year. Veteran point guard Kemba Walker said his teammates didn’t try hard enough after the loss against the Washington Wizards. We just need to play harder, Walker said after the game. We don’t play hardball. We don’t play as hard as we know we can. When you play hard, great things happen. And now our play was inconsistent. So, like I said, we keep watching the movies, learning from our mistakes and getting better.
Danny Ainge has taken responsibility for the Boston Celtics’ problems

Two young players, Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown, are on long-term contracts. They have a good supporting cast with Walker, Marcus Smart and the very athletic Robert Williams. The Celtics have not been good this year, and Ainge has taken full responsibility for that. He simply said that the team he had put together was not good enough. Our team is clearly not very good. I mean, we’re a 14-14 team, Ainge said, according to Boston.com. There are no ifs, buts or ifs. That’s what we are. This team, where we are now, 14-14, if anyone is to blame, it’s Danny Ainge. It’s not Brad Stevens. It’s not Jason Tatum or Jalen Brown. That’s not enough for now. And we all know it. And we need to get better.
Stevens will replace Ainge and Jason Kidd is named as a replacement for head coach
Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd and former Atlanta Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce are reportedly candidates for the Boston Celtics head coaching job, according to sources in the league @YahooSports. – Chris Haynes (@ChrisBHaynes) June 2, 2021 Mr Ange resigned from his post on Wednesday, to the praise of the organisation’s staff. Danny has been at his best for the past 18 years – our record for winning percentage and playoff victories is first in the league during that time. He has always been a fierce competitor and a winner. Red Auerbach told us Danny was lucky, and he was right, but much of that luck came from his strong drive and incredible basketball sense, Celtics co-owner and manager Wick Groesback said, per NBA.com. With movement comes speculation. Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports reports that former Nets and Bucks coach Jason Kidd is reportedly a candidate to replace Stevens as head coach. Kidd works as an assistant for the Lakers. He was the Bucks’ last head coach during the 2017-18 season, when he was fired after a 23-22 start to the year. Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo said Kidd has made him a better player. He was a big part of my success, Antetokounmpo said after his release, according to Bleacher Report. He trusted me, put the ball in my hands, motivated me daily, pushed me to be great and not mediocre. COMPARED TO: Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens makes shocking $70 million decision
