The Tarot has been used as a divination tool for thousands of years–and there are a number of good reasons why. From its rich history, to its simplicity, to its ability to predict the future, the Tarot is one of the most reliable tools there is for gaining valuable insight into your life.

Today, I’d like to share the Tarot Spread that has guided me through my anxious days. The Spread can be used as a productivity guide, a daily affirmation, or to help you get to sleep at night.

When you’re anxious, there’s a lot of information you have to process at once. And the information rarely comes in a linear fashion. You may have a dream that you only partially understand, you may be worrying about a decision you’ve made, or you may have an idea for a new project that could change everything. In cases like this, a Tarot spread can be your best friend.

I’ve always been restless. It’s wrapped up in me. I’ve learned to deal with it, and of course tarot reading helps, but last year my anxiety genes kicked into high gear. (Thanks for that, Pandemic.) word-image-17956 The concern is control. I care about the people I love and want to control the universe around them and keep them safe. And because I’m introverted and empathetic, I have an overactive imagination that makes up all sorts of things. The scenarios are both wonderful and terrible. I’m sure you can understand that. Over the past 12 months I have tried to control every possible variable. And I had a very strong opinion of my loved ones because of fear and adrenaline. But now that we realize we’ve been around longer than we should, something has to change or we’ll get burnt out. This is a tarot reading that revolves around the idea of control, what we can and cannot control. I’ve found it very useful lately. (Scroll down for a video demonstration of this spread). If you feel anxious, worried or exhausted because you are trying to be the master of the universe, the one who is responsible for everything and everyone, try this. Shuffle your cards well. Make it a meditation exercise. Breathe, drag your feet, breathe, drag your feet. Do it slowly, methodically, until you feel calm. word-image-17957 Ask for the cards: What is in my power to control today? Draw this card and put it down. Look at this card and remember the first thought, word or image that comes to mind. Then translate that into something in your daily life. Does the image reflect something or someone important to you? Does it help you make a decision, say yes or no to an opportunity or proposal? Whether it’s showing your personal resources or the strengths you have access to. Don’t leave this card until you have the answer you want. Then put the cards down. What can’t I check today? Follow the same steps as above. Do you see yourself in this card? Someone in your life? Outside forces? World events? The weather? Favorites? As soon as you get an answer, drop that card and your urge for control. Let go of the need for control. Give up and trust. That will be a relief. Then, if you want, you can draw another card to get more information about the first two cards. In a situation that you can control, you can ask the cards how you should act in that situation, what actions you should take to get the best benefit or result. In the case of a situation you have no control over, you can ask the cards how to release that situation into your heart and mind, how to trust that things will turn out the way they should, or whatever the cards want to show you that is helpful.
